Marketing Your Business on Facebook

There are numerous ways that businesses have tried to generate leads on Facebook. According to Max Steingart picking prospect is as easy as picking green M&Ms from huge bowl of candy. Considering Facebook has over 500 million people that signed up on their social networking site that's a pretty huge bowl of candy!

It’s well known that there are numerous reasons why people create a Facebook page. Some create a page for networking with others, some for building relationships, others are looking for friendship, some for love, other just for entertainment.

Considering each person has their own individual agenda you need to be able to recognize why that person is on Facebook and if they are a candidate for the type of products or services that you offer.

One of the major errors businesses make when trying to promote their business on Facebook is forgetting that Facebook is a social network and the people that are on Facebook are not there to purchase their product and or services. They are there to network with friends and family.

Businesses that fail to realize that the people are there because they want to belong to a social network and come across like a used car salesman just trying to promote their business on Facebook are destined for failure. In some cases they may even get their Facebook account banned.

After all, the real purpose of a social network is to give a person the ability to easily connect with their friends, neighbors and family members with whom they are socially involved. It's supposed to be a website where one connects with those sharing personal or professional interests, places of origin, education at a particular school or similar values. This social interactivity is one of the main reasons why the average person on Facebook spends almost 50 min. per day networking with their friends and family.

In case you didn't know it Facebook users now account for over 25% of the world Internet population and Facebook now has more visitors each day, then Google.

With all of these members interacting every day Facebook definitely offers the easiest, cheapest and fastest way to sell anything because of the access it gives you to so many people. But there are rules and codes of conduct that you must know and follow in order to succeed.

The key to growing your business on Facebook is by establishing a relationship with people prior to trying to sell them anything. Also, you need to be able to know or at least be able to recognize in advance if someone is the perfect prospect for what you're selling and then develop a relationship with them before talking about your business.

It's also important to understand that the process of monetizing Facebook is exactly the same as monetizing AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, MySpace, Friend Finder and even match.com. The techniques that you use are the same no matter what type of product or service you're offering. The best part is, it only requires a few hours of your time to get started, and the results are almost immediate.

There are experts who try and tell you that the key to promoting your business is "traffic," as a solution to making money on Facebook but this is actually a longer and more expensive road than you need to travel to make money online.

Also marketing your business on Facebook does not require a great deal of technical skill in fact you don't even need a website for your business to market your product or services on Facebook. You just need to be able to identify your potential prospects by examining their profile and then knowing the best method to contact them.
